New features: timesheets, logins and more!

February 28th, 2008 by ryan

It’s been a while since we last updated this blog, but it’s been for a good reason: new features! We’ve been working on some really big things for the site that we think you’re going to love. So what’s changed? For one, you can now track Timesheets! On top of that, there’s the ability for multiple, linked accounts. And more!

Timesheets
In addition to tracking invoices, you can now track the components that go into your invoices with the new Timesheets feature. You (and your employees, contractors, coworkers, etc) can all record each of the items worked on, along with what client to bill and details about the work. Then, simply roll up the items using the handy Review feature, and invoice your clients with the data.

The new Timesheets feature should greatly streamline your entire billing process, while also giving you an idea of your current billing situation at any time. Of course, the trickiest part is often getting people to switch their habits, which is why we made the entire entry system as simple as possible. Just enter a few details about your work, the time it took, and what client to bill, then click the Add Entry button. It’s about as easy as it gets.

Multiple Accounts
Since the new Timesheets feature allows more than one person to record their work entries, there needed to be a way for more than one person at a company to use invotrak. So, we setup an access system based on roles: Administrator and Employee. An Administrator is the person who first signed up for invotrak. Admins can view and record invoices, and can grant access to others, while employees are only given access to the Timesheets feature.

To setup this access, all you need to do is go to the Settings page and click the Add link next to the Account Access setting. Then, type in the email address of the person who should have access to invotrak and set their access type (Admin or Employee). The person will receive an email with details on how to log into their new account.Keep in mind that adding an account is only for previously unregistered emails. Our next step is to set it up so existing account-holders can be added too.

Other New Features
There’s been a number of other minor changes to the site, but chief among them is the new graphing feature. On the Timesheets page, you’ll see a graph of your hours on a daily basis, and on the Client show page, you’ll see a handy pie chart detailing paid vs. unpaid invoices.

We hope you like the updated invotrak! And don’t forget to let us know what you think, especially what you’d like to see in the future. We rely on our users to tell us where to focus our efforts, so if there’s something you’d like to see in invotrak, be sure to let us know!
